“I like” – Keri Hilson

Omg Keri Hilson has done it again! I am in love all over again! She has came out of the wood works with this new song “I Like” which is produced by David Jost and Robin Gruber and its stated to have a music video in the works as well! #POW! She is really making sure that all the doubters eat their words. #BAM! She is and will forever be here TO STAY! The song goes on about her going out, dancing, meeting a guy and liking the way he makes her feel. She states “I’m losing control right now and I feel its right I like I like I like… and the world around us won’t stop turning tonight… I like I like I like” My god this woman does something to songs that only a few can i.e. Brandy. Keri’s vocals are so smooth over the track as if the song was born into her. The song is electrifying and catchy. I love the crossover appeal with this song and if Keri continues on this path it will solidify a new fan base for her.  I am in love and it isn’t with a man, it’s none other than Miss Keri Baby! #BOOM!

Usher – Papers

Usher Raymond must really love these pseudo relationships he gets in and then enlist songwriters to use them as fuel/lyrical content for his albums.  I find myself listening to his song “Papers” produced by Zaytoven and written by Sean Garrett, and immediately know that this is about his recent marriage/divorce!  SMH at him doing what he did to Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas he’s, now, doing to Tameka Foster-Raymond.  A “tell all” about your marriage/divorce to Tameka was the biggest cheap shot since Diddy letting Shyne take the fall for the gun possession charge LOL. Its stated that “Papers” is his lead single from his forthcoming sixth studio album ‘Raymond vs. Raymond. The song sounds like a conversation he’s having with his soon to be ex stating that “he took a chance on love… ” and “For you, I gave my heart and turned my back against the world cause you were my girl.  I done damn near lost my mama, I’ve been through so much drama…”  Chile #DOUBLEKaBOOM LOL!  I don’t want to hear that. You know what you did and why you did it and it wasn’t for love LOL!

The song has a solid mid-tempo beat and has nothing special going on with it to make radio friendly.  It’s very cliché and sounds like it could possibly be from the “Moving Mountains” era. I like that it’s consistent but that’s about it. I CANNOT understand why he doesn’t try something new with his voice or his production. I believe that if he wants to stay relevant he needs to step outside the box and not deliver these lack luster/typical R&B songs.  Maybe he should go back and do those club banger type of songs like he use to do. These sappy-emotional Keith Sweat songs are not the BUSINESS and do nothing but keep him bound.
