Last night, with three DJs and a drummer on set Kelis performed her second single “4th of July (Fireworks)” on the Jay Leno Show and NAILED IT. This is Kelis’s second single from her forthcoming album “Flesh Tone” which will be in stores and online July 6th.
I am convinced, Kelis is one of the most underrated artist in the game right now. Get into the video.
The video premiere to Kelis’s second single “4th of July” just debuted on Vevo and i don’t understand the concept at all! And the greenscreen…BLAH! Nevertheless, the video is here and i still love the song and Kelis. Kelis will be releasing her fifth studio album “Fleshtone” on July 6 in the U.S. Already released overseas, the album is SPECTACULAR and is an all dance album with Kelis expanding her vocals cords over thumping beats the entire album, an electronica/dance fan’s ectasy!
Kelis has been SLAYING her live performances and will be performing her new single this Friday on the “Jay Leno Tonight Show”!
Sizzle Miami and DC Black Pride weren’t the only two gay events jumping off on Memorial weekend. Over on the west coast in Santa Clara, California’s Great America hosted their annual Gay Days with a headline performance by singer/songwriter Kelis. Kelis did a full concert and performed all of her new songs from her forthcoming dance album Flesh Tone which will be released in the U.S. on July 6th.

Up next is Kelis, the eclectic, former Star Trek First lady that showed much promise at the close of the 90’s with the single “Caught Out There”. Kelis 2nd album “Wanderland” was shelved in the U.S., but her 3rd album created the monster single “Milkshake” which peaked on the billboard Hot 100. After the smash, came the decline where her fourth album “Kelis Was Here” failed to gain the same momentum as her predecessor. After the disappointment of support of her record label. It was reported that Kelis was going to give up music and become a chef. May 17th marks the worldwide release date day for her 5th album Fleshtone that includes the #1 Dance Single “Acapella”. Unfortunately, Fleshtone will not be available in the U.S till July 6th.
Finally, Kansas born Janelle Monáe, a new artistdiscovered by Outkast’s Big Boi. Janelle was signed to Big Boi’s Purple Ribbon Label and was featured on The Idlewild Soundtrack. During this era, Janelle’s material never saw the light of mainstream media. In 2007, Janelle took the leap into the underground indie circuit to produce the first EP of 4 Metropolis Suite I of IV: The Chase. It was reported that she was able to sell 10,000 copies of the EP on her own. After numerous tours, collaborations, and finding a home at Bad Boy, Janelle Monáe is set to release her first full-length LP The ArchAndroid: (Suites II and III of IV) on May 18th .

Kelis has been in full promo mode in an effort to get the word out about her new album “Flesh Tone” which comes out July 6th in the U.S. and May 17th in all other countries. Under the Will.I.Am. music group brand, electronica and dance music is the focus of the new album. Her lead single “Acapella” currently sits at the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart.
Kelis kicked off her promo tour in Miami, FL at the Winter Music Conference on March 10th performing “Acapella” and “Spaceship”. Kelis also recently performed the single on the Jimmy Kimmel show. Check out the performance below.
It should be interesting how Kelis electronica style will be receieved in the US from here urban fans but Internationally, the album should do great for a dance album.
Kelis is headlining the 12th Annual Gay Days at Six Flags Great America on Friday, May 28th. Gay Days at Great America is one of the West Coast largest outdoor dance parties at a park and includes the park rides being open from 5pm-Midnight and the dance party going on by the park’s landmark double decker carousel until 2am!
