It’s that time of the year again where we call it here in Atlanta, the unofficial Atlanta Black Pride weekend aka MLK weekend. Atlanta promoters have a festive weekend planned for locals and out of towners visiting and we have a full rundown on everything so you don’t have to look all over the NET to find out where and what. Over 20+ events are happening between this Wednesday, January 11th and Monday, January 16th.
One thing that we have noticed and you might notice as well is that there are no scheduled artists to perform this year. There are a few celebrities hosting parties though. Not to fear, it’s a benefit to most attendees as many of the clubs and events are offering free admission and drinks til midnight and it gives people the opportunity to actually party and not have to stand around and wait hours for an artist to perform a 15 minute set.
Be safe, have fun, and we will see you around this weekend! Get into the full MLK event line-up after the jump. Read the full story

Full of black celebrities, Hip Hop & R&B artist, and a host of famed Producers, Music Executives, and Movers & Shakers, Atlanta has been often nick-named Black Hollywood. Well the Atlanta Council has just took another step in making that nick-name even more of a reality. According to the AJC, the Atlanta City Council has approved a Multi-million dollar/50 year lease to rent out the Lakewood Fairgrounds to EUE/Screen Gems.
According to Mayor Kasim Reed, the latest move will move Atlanta to the top 5 cities in the U.S., in terms of having motion pictures made. The new studio is also expected to create hundreds of jobs and bring more businesses like restaurants, hotels, and movie studio vendors to the area.
Anyone who has lived in Atlanta for the past 3-5 years can tell you, each year Atlanta has become more and more a spotlight for filming. From the Producer/Actor Tyler Perry Studios which was built last year in the Greenbriar area of Atlanta, to the 40 year-old Turner Broadcasting network which sits in the heart of Downtown Atlanta off of I-85, Atlanta has made it mark in the film and entertainment industry. BET has also had a big presence in the city the past few years with the BET Hip Hop Awards being hosted in Atlanta since it’s inception 4 years ago, The Monique Show studio (located at TBS Studios) in Atlanta, and now The Game which is recording here in Atlanta for their new season. Recently, parts of Big Momma’s House 3 was filmed in Decatur, GA as well as Stomp the Yard II which will be released by Screen gem.
Screen Gem has studios in New York City and Wilmington, NC. Atlanta will be it’s 3rd studio location with the company using 30 acres of the Lakewood fairgrounds creating a studio for television, commercial, digital and fil production. They will also build a 40,000 square foot state-of-the-art soundstage. Screen Gem is also considering creating film school program in Atlanta.
