Keke of the Day | “The Rent is too Damn High”

100609rent

This past Monday, New York held a Gubernatorial debate between candidates Carl Paladino, Andrew Cuomo, and long shot candidate Jimmy McMillan.

Representing “The Rent Is Too Damn High” Party, Jimmy McMillan took the debate by storm. In his speech, Jimmy stated “I represent ‘The Rent Is Too Damn High Party’”. “People are working 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week and some a third job. Women can’t afford to take care of their children, feed their children breakfast, lunch and dinner. My main job is to provide a roof over your head, food on the table and money in your pocket. This is politics as usual, playing the silly game, and this is not gonna happen.”

McMillan said the deficit is “like a cancer. It will heal itself.” On the issue of gay marriage, he said that “the Rent Is 2 Damn High Party feels if you want to marry a shoe, I’ll marry you.”

I’ve always thought the rent in New York was too damn high myself and the apartments too damn small! Check out his commentary below.

Video | Lady Gaga Addresses Senators & Citizens About Dont Ask, Dont Tell

Picture 7

Never shy of expressing herself and standing up for the LGBT community, Lady Gaga has took to the YouTube airwaves with a video message asking the U.S. Senate to repeal the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, which bans gay and lesbian Americans from serving openly in the military.

Gaga made the video for Servicemembers Legal Defense Network. Check out the video below and make sure you guys check out our featured article on DADT where we had a gay military service member write to us and give us his stance on what may happen if Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell is officially eliminated.

One great thing I love about Lady Gaga is that she’s been with and for gays long before she had the fame.

“Dont Ask, Don’t Tell” is Unconstitutional… Duhhhh…

dontask

As my mother use to tell me “IT’S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!!!”, and that’s what U.S. District Court Judge Virginia A. Phillips ruled after reviewing a case of the the U.S. military rule of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell”. Judge Phillips declared the 17-year-old compromising military rule as unconstitutional because it violated the 1st and 5th amendment rights of gays and lesbians. Phillips added that a prohibition on openly gay military service members has a “direct and deleterious effect” on armed services.

The judge will draft the injunction within the week and afterward, the federal government will have a week to appeal!

Last weekend in Milwaukee, WI, Pridefest took place with special guests Kathy Griffin, Patti LaBelle, and the hilarious Joan Rivers.

During Patti Labelle’s performance at Pridefest, Patti took a couple of minutes out of her set to talk to the people (as usual) and discussed people bashing  President Obama. She explained to the audience that things don’t change over night especially after eight years of “Bush’s, Bush’s, Bush’s, BULLSHIT…”. Check out the video below. Patti always keeps it real!

And in case you were wondering who’s the Charice girl she mentions at the end of the video, here’s a video clip of Charice perfoming as the opening act for Patti at Pridefest. Charice is a 17 year old Filipino girl who was found via YouTube from a fan uploading live performances of her online and the rest was history. First Lady Laura Bush Says Let the Kids Get Married!

lauras-book

First Lady Laura Bush is promoting her new book “Spoken from the Heart” and was special guest a few days ago on The Larry King Show. When asked about gay marriage she stated, “It will come”. She explained how she has always disagreed with her husband on gay marriage since the beginning but of course you know while in the office it was just an “agree to disagree” type thing.

As some of you know, Vice President Dick Cheney own daughter, Mary, is an out lesbian. Read this excerpt from Laura Bush’s new book and watch the video clip below.

”In 2004 the social question that animated the campaign was gay marriage. Before the election season had unfolded, I had talked to George about not making gay marriage a significant issue. We have, I reminded him, a number of close friends who are gay or whose children are gay. But at that moment I could never have imagined what path this issue would take and where it would lead.”

Politics | U.S. Health Bill Passes (Video)

barack-obama2_1

Last night the United States House of Representative passed a landmark health care overhaul for the United States. In what was one of Presidents Obama #1 agenda, the House of Representatives passed the bill late Sunday night. Of course all Republicans voted NAY but the Democrats pulled it together to approve the bill.

After a night of Gumbo, Spades, and Champagne with a few friends at my house, we all set at the TV and watched President Obama address the Nation with a smile on his face about the passage of the Health bill. You could tell that it was a momentous occasion for the White House and more importantly Americans after only a few months when some had claimed that the bill was dead.

Check out President Obama addressing the Nation on the monumental Bill passage last night. The AJC has published a great article on what the health care overhaul bill. Check it out here.
