In just a few hours, ABC World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer will air part of an exclusive interview President Barack Obama did today for Good Morning America which will air tomorrow morning confirming that on a personal level he believes same sex marriage should be legal.

For the 8 years, President Obama has been in the oval office, Obama has dodged the gay marriage question and his stance, once agreeing that civil unions was enough to protect gay couples. But from the looks of this upcoming interview, Obama’s “evolving” opinion on the subject appears to be concrete now.

Said Obama:

“I have to tell you that over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships, same-sex relationships, who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that Don’t Ask Don’t Tell is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important for me to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.”

Added the President:

“It’s interesting, some of this is also generational. You know when I go to college campuses, sometimes I talk to college Republicans who think that I have terrible policies on the economy, on foreign policy, but are very clear that when it comes to same sex equality or, you know,  believe in equality. They are much more comfortable with it. You know, Malia and Sasha, they have friends whose parents are same-sex couples. There have been times where Michelle and I have been sitting around the dinner table and we’re talking about their friends and their parents and Malia and Sasha, it wouldn’t dawn on them that somehow their friends’ parents would be treated differently. It doesn’t make sense to them and frankly, that’s the kind of thing that prompts a change in perspective.”

The President also cited his faith in the announcement and the influence of First Lady Michelle Obama:

“This is something that, you know, we’ve talked about over the years and she, you know, she feels the same way, she feels the same way that I do. And that is that, in the end the values that I care most deeply about and she cares most deeply about is how we treat other people and, you know, I, you know, we are both practicing Christians and obviously this position may be considered to put us at odds with the views of others but, you know, when we think about our faith, the thing at root that we think about is, not only Christ sacrificing himself on our behalf, but it’s also the Golden Rule, you know, treat others the way you would want to be treated. And I think that’s what we try to impart to our kids and that’s what motivates me as president and I figure the most consistent I can be in being true to those precepts, the better I’ll be as a as a dad and a husband and hopefully the better I’ll be as president.”

About The Evolution Project

The Evolution Project is a drop-in community center for young black gay/bisexual men and transgenders individuals between 18 and 28 years of age. This is a safe space that helps young people to connect, develop strengths and skills, support each other, have fun and achieve positive goals. The program staff assists these young men to enhance their HIV and STD risk reduction skills by utilizing the will, talent and vision of the members themselves.

The Evolution Project is distinguished by the active leadership and involvement of the members. Members play an intricate role in planning activities, special events, and design of the space. Examples include movie nights, discussions, cookouts, card games, parties, balls, community forums and more. The Evolution Project provides access to HIV testing and STD screening at on and off-site locations. Members are provided linkage to free medical screenings, case management, HIV/STD treatment and other health care services. Additionally, the Evolution Project offers mental health services such as individual, relationship and group counseling. What are you looking for President Obama in his State of the Union address?

While tech giants Apple and Microsoft may be night and day in the tech world, the two companies seem to at least agree on some things in the world, including support for Same Sex marriage. MacObserver reports that this past Thursday, Microsoft issued a statement on their official blog in support of two bills currently in the Washington state legislature that address civil marriage and domestic partners. According to the site Microsoft joins five other major corporations including Nike, Vulcan, RealNetworks, Group Health Corporation, and Concur in support of the state bills.

Check out what Microsoft had to say about the importance of gay marriage in the state of Washington, which is where Microsoft is headquartered.

 

“As other states recognize marriage equality, Washington’s employers are at a disadvantage if we cannot offer a similar, inclusive environment to our talented employees, our top recruits and their families. Employers in the technology sector face an unprecedented national and global competition for top talent. Despite progress made in recent years with domestic partnership rights, same-sex couples in Washington still hold a different status from their neighbors. Marriage equality in Washington would put employers here on an equal footing with employers in the six other states that already recognize the committed relationships of same-sex couples – Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York and Vermont. This in turn will help us continue to compete for talent.”

In ’08, Apple took a stance in their home state donating $100,000 to opposing the Prop 8 ballot initiative. Both Microsoft and Apple supported the “It Gets Better” campaign in 2011.

It’s a great thing to know that the tech companies recognize that diversity is a maJor key to success for a corporation!

The GA Voice reports that two men were beaten and robbed late Sunday night after leaving the popular gay bar, Blakes, located in the Piedmont Midtown area.

The men, identified as Drew Childs and Trenton Thieler, told the Atlanta Police Department they were robbed at 9th Street and Argonne Avenue. The police received the call at about 2:40 a.m.

Childs and Theiler had left Blake’s, located on 10th Street, and were walking toward Argonne Avenue when they said they were approached by two black men who struck Theiler on the back of his head. Theiler ran to 10th Street to escape and the the two men then attacked Childs, hitting him in the face several times and taking his wallet, according to the APD.

One of the victims tweeted the next day after the mugging “What a night. Said good-bye to all my friends, got mugged, and woke-up in an ambulance. #wondrous #hateatlanta”. The Midtown Piedmont area has been no stranger to muggings. Last year, several muggings took place in the area including Piedmont Park where Atlanta Police promised to beef up security.

This week the big international  Consumer Electronic Show (CES) kicked off yesterday in Las Vegas where some of the biggest technology companies introduced their new electronic gadgets coming out for the New Year. First there’s Beyonce & Jay-Z’s new baby girl Blue Ivy and now we have the Blue Ivy Nokia Lumia 900.

Ok so I exaggerated a little but the new LTE 4G  premium Windows mobile phone (exclusive to AT&T) is set to hit the U.S. sometime soon. Announced today at the CES show in Las Vegas, the Lumia 900 will be packing a 4.3-inch ClearBlack display, 1.4GHz single-core CPU, 512MB of RAM, along with a 8MP Carl Zeiss f/2.2 camera with LED flash (shooting 720p HD video).

Call me shallow if you want to but the color alone sells this phone and I want it!  Nokia has always been one of the most respected phone makers in the industry for quality and craftsmanship. Nokia dropped their previous OS system, Symbian, which ran on their past phones and partnered with Windows in an effort to fight back against the popular iOS (Apple iPhone) and Android devices. All future Nokia phone hardware will be running Windows mobile operating systems which have struggled themselves in fighting against the two titans Apple and Google. The two companies hope that the partnership will pay off in 2012.

Unfortunately, AT&T and Nokia left us hanging with no clear release date or price but something tells me we will see Ivy Blue popping up in the states sooner than later!

Earlier this week, President Barrack Obama took to the TV airways to address concerns of his birth certificate and questions of whether he was an U.S. citizen thanks to Donald Trump who has been on a media rage the past month touting President Obama to “show his papers”.

Last night, President Obama got his time to make light of the situation and did not hesitate to go all the way in on Trump at the annual White House Correspondent dinner.
