Last night the United States House of Representative passed a landmark health care overhaul for the United States. In what was one of Presidents Obama #1 agenda, the House of Representatives passed the bill late Sunday night. Of course all Republicans voted NAY but the Democrats pulled it together to approve the bill.

After a night of Gumbo, Spades, and Champagne with a few friends at my house, we all set at the TV and watched President Obama address the Nation with a smile on his face about the passage of the Health bill. You could tell that it was a momentous occasion for the White House and more importantly Americans after only a few months when some had claimed that the bill was dead.

Jake: So who is JC, what does he like and dislike, what does he do, who does he want to be?

JC: JC is a humble artist that does music because of his love for music, not for the money. My only goal in the music industry has always been to showcase my music on a major platform and consistently be able to provide quality music to my fans. What do I do?….I breath, think, eat, sleep, music 24/7. lol

Jake: Growing up and now, who were/are your musical influences?

JC: I had a lot of family influences because my family LOVES to sing. Anytime our family is together, we find room to sing….and fyi, I have a huge family. I’ve also had a wide-range of influences from several gospel artists to a lot of the soft rock/pop artists from the 70s to the 90s. I’m a huge Sam Cooke fan and Babyface fan more so because of their writing skills and the way they did “business” as far as having their own labels and only such a large portion of their publishing.

Jake: How do you feel you bring that “swagg” to the performances and your music?

JC: Well, I feel that Swagg is just something you either have or you don’t. Its just the way you “naturally” talk, walk, interact, etc. I think it just replaced the word “cool”. So I feel like I bring the Swagg into my performances and music just by whatever it is that I do that makes say “that guys kinda cool.” ha ha

Jake: Does your music set you apart from other R&B artist? As if to say your music is not the typical R&B music being played today.  If yes, why?

JC: Yes because all of my music is “clean”. You have to listen to all of my music to know that I don’t even sing about sex. Not saying that its right or wrong….I just try to challenge myself to write about something other than the obvious. So instead of writing about stepping into the bedroom, I may just write about how “Shocked” I am that this woman really has me settling down or just hearing this girl talk to me is like “Earcandy”. Even in the real world, girls like guys that are more indirect anyway. Thats why I think so many woman are attracted to my music. Substance…thats what Stevie, Michael, Smokie, Lionel, etc were all about.

Jake: You stated that even women want a variety; do you feel you are the artist that will deliver more than just a man behind the piano belting out songs?

JC: Oh yea….girls like a little umph sometimes so you gotta make them move and give them something to bounce to every now and them. Staying at the piano is too 1 dimensional. Even John Legend had to go “Green Light” on em. lol

Jake: How is the music scene in Nashville, TN and how did it influence what type of music you write and sing?

JC: Well my music was kind of influenced by having a minister as a father who told me it was either “clean it up or sing gospel”. Nashville has a church on EVERY corner…literally so that definitely influenced my writing style. But just being in a city that is responsible for so much Country and Gospel I naturally have a love for music in general. The Urban scene is simple…A LOT of talent, no outlet to take it to the next level. Thats what brought me to the ATL.

Jake: How did you become in contact with Yung Joc and how did being signed to his label become a reality?

JC: Well, I met Yung Joc while we were both artists at Block Ent/Bad Boy South. We’ve both experienced a lot of the same industry issues but we’ve always been cool even at a distance. So now, we basically have an affiliation with one another. He respects the fact that I’m doing a lot of stuff independently and so he just opened up his resources to me as needed….which of course VERY FEW artists would do. So I have a lot of respect for Joc. He’s also featured on my next single “Vote 4 Me” which I’ll be pushing around the end of March/April.

Jake: Do you ever get nervous before hitting the stage with other performers or even solo?

JC: Yes….I think everybody does but once I open my mouth, I’m good.

Jake: Are there any people you would like to work with that you haven’t yet?

JC: Yes, but its too many to name. I would love to do a record with Kayne West though. I love the consistency of his strong records. I also would love to do something with Lincoln Park.

Jake: Are you currently working on an album of your own?

JC: Yes, I’m working on an album called “Voicemail”. The album is basically done, but I plan to continue working on it until it makes the most sense from a business stand point to release it. I’m really focusing more on releasing at least 2 singles “Internationally” this year and building up my company No.2 Pencil Muzik, LLC.

Jake: Have you written songs for other artists?

JC: Yes, I’ve written for major artists, indie artists, new artists, local artists, international artists….a pretty good mix of different artists….i’ve even done some ghostwriting to keep the bills paid. ; )

Jake: Can you tell us about your upcoming projects?

JC: Well like I said before, as of now I’m strictly focusing on the release of these to singles on a major label which of course includes touring, videos, single sells, promo, etc etc. Thats really the only thing i’m dedicated to for this year. All of my energy is there.

Jake: How do you feel about the One Love One Heart Organization’s mission and how does it coexist with your own humanitarian doings?

JC: Well, I made it a point not to mention this but since you asked….I always do things for different missions, churches, and other organizations. I do simple things like take food to the homeless on the corner of MLK downtown and deliver it right out of my car….to the point the police officers don’t even bother me anymore. I take 100s of lbs of clothes to different missions and shelters. There’s a LONG list of things that I can mention but the thing is….I don’t think people should make it a point to mention ALL that they do. God will bless you for it and those people will be grateful. Thats all I need to know. but to answer the 1st part of your question, I love what the One Love One Heart Organization is doing!  Anything legitimately positive is alright with me and I want to be a part of as much as I possibly can.

“Ain’t Leavin Without You”

This is the opening track to the album and it was a smart decision because this track is great. Jaheim’s voice flows on this track like we are use to and gives you that old school R&B vibe.  Throughout the song Jaheim kept up with his usual style of singing.  Almost like a reintroduction of  him and his style.

“Finding My Way Back”

This is another hot song!  A true slow jam love song, Jaheim’s voice once again flows over the beat and is sure to melt any young woman or man listening to it. This track is one of my favorites. It tells a story of an anxious Jaheim trying to find his way back to his woman’s heart.  It’s that type of song that one can put on, really low, while entertaining your perspective partner for the night, and chill!

“Whoa”

Here is an up tempo love song which tells how a woman can make a man say ‘whoa’ over her, ‘cause nothing else can explain how you feel. It’s a true woman empowering love song, as he keeps everything positive with nothing vulgar or explicit pertaining to her body or what she is capable of doing in the bedroom, just good old emotions!

“Till It Happens To You”

This song makes you happy as soon as you hear it. It’s a song about love and all the happiness that comes with being loved and being in love. We often find love in unfamiliar places and times in our life and when it happens to you, you can help but to embrace it. Jaheim channeled a lot of real life situations in this song and the transition from one story to another is done exceptionally well!  A true inspirational song about love and happiness!

“Bed Is Listening”

This song has a feel of another song of his off one of his previous albums. The beat goes in and out, it’s sort of a mid tempo kind of song. It talks of how a woman can be so quick to turn her back on her man. Going around gossiping with friends and family members at the first sign of trouble but forgets all the things the “bed” has seen and heard. This is a relationship type song where it seems like Jaheim is proclaiming that he can fix the issues him and his woman has with sex..? I’m assuming the sex must be that great!

“Impossible”

Now this is really an old OLD school track, with the beat, arrangements, and background singers to boot. It’s very nice and calm, another love song. As one can see, that is the theme he is going for which is a good look for him as it works well with his voice!

“Another Round”

The only club banger of the album, this song has an upbeat tempo. I’m not sure who made this call to write and produce this song but it works well as it’s not over done or overly cheesy. But the lyrics speak on how Jaheim keeps getting these girls at the bar drinks in hope for ‘another round’ back as his place. Overall, it’s cool but not what I was expecting.

“Her”

This friendly upbeat track praises a woman and how her man can’t be without ‘her’. It’s written very beautifully and screams the fun times of being in love. He is really bringing love back!

“II  Pink Lines”

If you haven’t caught on, the title ‘II Pink Lines’ stands for the two lines on a pregnancy test. This song is the future father’s song of the decade! I’ve never heard such a song that praises fatherhood and the joys of waiting and anticipating the arrival of a baby. It makes me want to run out and have a baby! PAUSE… Nah!

“Otha Half”

This should or could be a hand guide to all you men out there letting your women go without truly saying what’s on your mind. Jaheim speaks on losing his woman, how bad he misses her and all the emotions and tears that were shed. His “otha half” is gone and isn’t coming back.

“Closer”

Another song that speaks on feeling lost and incomplete without a woman by his side; this song is hot. The slow tempo of this song gives a 90’s R&B feel to it. ‘Closer’ brings me back to that era of music where things weren’t so trashy and explicit but where people sung their hearts out on a track!

“In My Hands”

This song is something like a modern day wedding song; it tells a REAL LOVE story.  Jaheim came hard on this one and his emotions can be felt on this song. The beat stays slow in tempo as he sings his love for his woman which he is about to marry. For all those couples out there that plan on marrying anytime soon, I think this will be a great contender for that perfect wedding song.

“Ain’t Leaving Without You (Featuring Jadakiss)”

This has the same lyrics of the original song but has rapper Jadakiss on the track. Nice remix, but I prefer the original.

Overall, “Another Round” is one of today’s best R&B albums that I have heard in a while, even beating my choice Robin Thicke’s latest album! I hope Jaheim sells well but in today’s market of overly saturated crap music and bubble gum singers, real hardcore love songs and good R&B music just doesn’t sell. This album is coming out at a perfect time; Valentine’s Day is right around the corner! Please go pick up a copy of “Another Round” in stores February 9^th, 2010!!!!!!

With just a year in publication and four issues under its belt, Kontrol Magazine has blasted out the online media gates as a major contender for the source on what’s “hott” in music, fashion and urban pop culture.

Enlisting the help of Teyana Taylor (singer, model, actress), Teairra Mari (singer, actress) and Melyssa Ford (model, actress, host) for a two cover issue surrounding the theme “ROCK & ROMANCE,” Kontrol has produced another well-rounded issue that takes a look at the lives and careers of these young women in addition to R&B group Pretty Ricky.  In case you are wondering, per Kontrol Magazine and the entertainers themselves, a lot is to be expected in 2010!

Tweet | Love Again

R&B’s most underrated songstress, Tweet, has a new song called “Love Again” produced by Charlie Bereal and Craig Brockman. This song is so CLASSIC Tweet, and I love it! “Love Again” is set to be featured on Tweet’s upcoming CD “Love, Tweet” that will be out in the spring of 2010. This is definitely a chill, laid back track. Something you can ride out to. Its very loving and free sounding, perfect for a spring/summer release! I hope this is a lead single of hers! Tell me your thoughts.

Our good friend and eclectic artist Kendahl has released his sophmore album “The Adahlcalypse” after a very successful first album “Dahl Society”.  His new album is a bit different though. Dahl Society had more rythem & beats, catch phrases, and tracks that made you want to vougue and just be free. Adahlcalypse gives you more electro mid tempo tracks with Kendahl singing more.

R&B singer, Amerie, premiered her video for “More Than Love” this week and I must say that it’s a VERY GOOD video. The video was shot and directed by TAJ. It tells a story of a cheating man and his suspecting girlfriend, only to find out he wasn’t cheating on her but has A BIG SURPRISE for her! It sounds a bit cheesy but it works for the song and the video is HOT! I think she should go back to doing more videos like this. Less dance and more acting. That’s just my opinion. Its a song that I remade to show that when its your true calling you are to be the best you can in order to inspire others..which will bring people together. When me, Jordin Sparks and B Scott were marching with those drums I imagined us being on the frontline in a war and it was my way of saying that it doesn’t matter if you are man, women, gay or straight… We should all be able to come together and fight for a certain cause no matter who you are.. And once we trully figure that out then that’s when we grow as a people
