We have really sad and bad news out of Punta Cana, DR today. According to event organizer Will Williams and an official Facebook post from Inferno DR, Inferno DR is “postponed”. Check out the official posting after the jump and stay tuned for reaction from attendees and more details on this story. Developing…
Inferno DR was established in 2009 as a Labor Day excursion and get-a-way for the LGBT community and quickly became a popular event applauded for providing a unique out of country experience for gay travelers and separating itself from what some people considered a monotony of Pride events.
Reasons were not given by Inferno DR as to why the event was “postponed”; however, emails, tweets, FaceBook post, and texts started flying around rapidly from attendees that were upset over the situation. WhatsTheT learned that some attendees arrived in the DR today and were left stranded at the airport with no transportation to the resort which was supposed to have been provided by Inferno DR. The attendees taxied to the resort only to find out that there was no rooms booked with their name and according to hotel representatives, Inferno DR event planners failed to make the appropriate deposit months ago to secure the resort. Patrons were offered a $275/nt rate to stay. WhatsTheT obtained this exclusive email from the Melia resort to an attendee. (see below).
There are many questions as to why attendees were not notified earlier than 24hrs by the event promoter and how or if refunds will be issued promptly to individuals that have paid. Inferno DR has had a fairly smooth and clean record the past five years for promoting the event so this unexpected announcement has shocked many.
We will keep you posted on the developing story.
