I’m sure you’ve heard that the Spider-Man franchise is about to receive a major retooling that’s going to send Peter Parker back to high school. Some people like the idea, like fans of the “Spectacular Spider-Man” cartoon and “Ultimate Comic Spider-Man” series, but others feel like they’ve been slapped in the face. After 3 movies, it’s already time for a reboot? I wonder what happened?
The talk in local comic book shops is the former director, Sam Raimi, wanted to focus the story on classic Spider-Man villain the Vulture, with a back-up story about Dr. Curt Conners/The Lizard. Sounds cool right? Wrong! Sony wanted Peter Parker/Spider-Man, formerly played by Tobey Maguire, to take a cue from Britney Spears and get his 1..2..3.. on with girlfriend Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) and sexy cat burglar, Felicia Hardy a.k.a the Black Cat (rumored to be played by Anne Hathaway). Now all parties involved have decided to go their separate ways and start fresh with a whole cast and crew.
Rumors are already going around saying that Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place star, David Henrie and Twilight New Moon beefcake, Taylor Lautner, are in the running for the role of teenage Peter Parker and the front runner for the part of Mary Jane Watson is former blond and now freshly red-haired Heroes star, Hayden Panettiere. Another rumor is that red hot Avatar director, James Cameron, is Sony’s number one pick to direct the reboot. But sadly, Cameron said that he’s not interested in coming back to the franchise. Any Spider-man fan worth his web-shooters knows that James Cameron wrote a script for Spider-Man back in 1993.
The only players that have been confirmed are director Marc Webb and writer James Vanderbilt. Webb has directed countless music videos for the likes of, Diddy, Miley Cyrus, Nelly, Fergie and Green Day, just to name a few and one movie titled 500 Days Of Summer. We’ll have to wait and see what he does with Spider-Man
